Types of Hearing Loss

The following figure illustrates the two main types of hearing loss:

Conductive hearing loss occurs in the outer and middle ear, when the transmission of sound vibrations is prevented from reaching the inner ear. This can happen due to wax build-up (A), fluid behind the eardrum (B), or a hole in the eardrum (C).

Sensorineural hearing loss, occurs in the inner ear (D), when sound vibrations are unable to be converted into electrical signals that the brain can process. This can be caused by exposure to loud noise, genetics, medications, or natural aging.

Last visit

I got to meet Dr. Ian Odgear. He was great. Pacific NW Audiology is continuing to recruit excellent doctors and staff. It is a true joy to have them as our Audiological care givers.

My visit

Dr. Ian was great. He took time to explain why he made adjustments to my hearing aids. Booking my appointment on-line was very easy and fast. I highly recommend Pacific Northwest Audiology for anyone considering hearing aids or just to have your existing hearing aids checked and adjusted. Kat at the front desk was also friendly and helpful.

Always a pleasant experience

I love the new building and location. The staff is always friendly and Dr. Li always takes her time to make sure everything is going well with my hearing. I always feel well taken care of.

Caring people

Dr Ian and all the staff will take the time you need to be satisfied. They will give you all the options to make an informed choice.

Excellent Care!

Rarely write reviews but NW Audio deserves a glowing one. I have mild hearing loss tried 3 devices and none worked to my satisfaction – Dr Li and Dr Ian were so patient and accepting and “hearing my concerns” with hours of trying to get the perfect one. While we all concluded that maybe I just wasn’t ready for one – I never felt pressured or directed – they wanted the best for me. I’m certain I’ll be back when I’m ready. Both doctors, their office staff were fabulous!

My experiences are always wonderful

Dr. Li is caring, competent, thorough and a pleasure to be working with. There is no one like her in Audiology, in my opinion

Hearing test and evaluation

Very professional and structured test and evaluation of my hearing. I was very impressed with the test procedure and would reccommend Dr. Li and her staff to othes
